9/30/13 Spanish Supervisory Skills Training

Bilingual supervisors should be an extremely valuable asset for properties or companies that hire Spanish speakers, but most employers are unaware of the pressures that these individuals face. They do not realize that, in order to be effective, bilingual supervisors need a different kind of targeted support from what their English-speaking counterparts generally get. Even if supervisory skills training is translated, it almost never addresses the most difficult challenges Spanish speakers face. Did you know:
• Spanish speakers can face bitter resentment from their former peers when promoted?
• Typical managerial practices in Latin America tend to be much more dictatorial and less based on team-building than practices in the US?
• Spanish-speaking supervisors almost never have a mentor who has experienced what they are facing and who can coach them in leadership and managerial skills?
• Spanish speakers tend to be very reluctant to ask for help; they fear this will give the impression that they are unprepared for the position?
• Qualified Spanish speakers will refuse promotions because they are afraid of pressure, resentment, and failure?
• EVERY Spanish speaker we have EVER asked has said he or she would rather report to an American (someone born and raised in this country) than to another Spanish speaker?
This session will provide the missing link. We will provide an overview of the conflicting beliefs that English and Spanish speakers bring to work in this country and offer participants concrete strategies to build effective and productive teams. Send your key personnel for a productive day that will transform their approach to management.

This training is provided in partnership with the Colorado Hotel and Lodging Association. If you are a CHLA member, please register through their site for discounted pricing.
